Luxury cosmetics packaging will be environmentally sustainable

According to the United Nations Statistics Office, 90 percent of Americans, 89 percent of Germans and 84 percent of Dutch people consider environmental standards when buying goods. With more and more attention paid to environmental protection, environmental protection has become a part of human daily life, but also an indispensable part in the process of enterprise development. As an important part of cosmetics, packaging has been paid close attention by major cosmetic companies. Worldwide, luxury cosmetics, the leader in the beauty industry, are beginning a sustainable packaging revolution.

Luxury packaging has a large market share

Paul Crawford, head of regulatory and environmental services at the British Toiletry and Perfumery Association (CTPA), agreed that the expectations of luxury cosmetics customers were unusual compared to the general market and packaging was seen as an important part of the product. “Packaging is an integral part of product design, marketing, image, promotion and sale. The combination and the package itself must represent the product and the brand.”

As people’s awareness of environmental protection is strengthened, consumers have higher and higher requirements for cosmetic packaging. Especially for luxury cosmetics, in the eyes of buyers, luxury cosmetics should be in environmentally friendly packaging efforts. At the same time, most companies want to use more sustainable packaging materials. Today’s major international cosmetics companies, such as Chanel, Coty, Avon, L ‘Oreal Group, Estee Lauder and others, are committed to promoting sustainable packaging.

Packaging development is related to regional economy

Studies have found that the development of luxury goods and their packaging is closely related to the economic prosperity of the region. Countries and regions with higher national income levels, such as North America, Western Europe and Japan, are big markets for luxury goods and their packaging. At the same time, economically developing countries such as Brazil, Russia, China and India have seen a surge in the market for luxury goods and their packaging in recent years, growing even faster than developed countries.

Luxury brands value sustainable packaging

The beauty industry in general is image driven, and the role of packaging is very large. However, consumers of luxury cosmetics now expect to buy products with packaging that is recyclable and biodegradable. Beauty marketers generally agree that cosmetics companies, especially luxury brands, have an inescapable responsibility to protect the environment. Well-known brands and their customers tend to be more concerned about whether a product’s packaging is ecological. Some luxury brands are already working towards sustainability. Although there are still many cosmetic products in luxury packaging, it is extremely difficult to recycle these products using metallized glass, metallized plastic, thick wall packaging, etc. But expensive packaging is clearly not good for the environment.

So sustainable development is on the agenda. Piper International believes that the biggest development trend in luxury packaging is the development of sustainable packaging. As luxury brand owners continue to focus on their luxury looks and packaging, they will be more inclined to use environmentally friendly packaging and materials.
