Creaseless Hair Clip Finish: Black Coating, White Logo, Scratch Test

A recent luxury beauty retailer inquiry specified all-black creaseless hair clips, a white logo, roughly 1,000-1,500 units and a late-September need date. The buyer did not ask for a generic hair clip guide. They needed a creaseless hair clip finish brief that separates black coating approval, white-logo legibility and surface-damage risk before the order is quoted.

Approval Route: Three Samples, Not One Vague Mockup

Approve three linked views: the undecorated black clip, the white-logo sample and the packed sample. If those are merged into one late prototype, the team cannot tell whether a defect comes from the substrate, coating, logo process or packing contact.

Request a creaseless clip finish review

This blog supports Ecorivta’s custom hair clip page. It does not repeat generic MOQ, logo placement or supplier-selection content, and it does not compete with the custom claw clip route.

Define Black as Color, Gloss and Edge Coverage

“All black” is not a complete finish instruction. The brief should state the target black reference, matte or gloss direction, acceptable metal visibility at hinges and jaws, and which inner surfaces are visible in retail photography. A physical approval sample is needed because the same black reference can look different on a flat plate, folded metal and moving hinge.

Pantone Color Systems 1 can organize color communication, but it does not define gloss, texture or coating thickness. Add close-up photos under the same lighting and identify the approved sample, not only the color code.

A Pantone-directed metal finish still needs a physical sample for gloss, texture and edge coverage approval.

Build a Scratch Review Around the Actual Purchase Risk

The buyer should define what “scratch test” means for this order. A practical sample review may include clip-to-clip contact in a pack, repeated opening and closing, a controlled rub at the logo zone, and inspection of exposed edges. If a formal coating test is required, agree on the method, sample preparation and acceptance before the lab work starts.

ASTM D3359-23 2 describes tape-test methods for rating adhesion of relatively ductile coatings to metallic substrates. ASTM D3363-22 3 covers film hardness by pencil test. These references explain why “scratch resistant” is not one universal pass/fail claim; they do not mean Ecorivta has run those tests on this proposed clip.

Inspection point Evidence to request Hold condition
Flat black surface Same-light before/after close-up. Visible scuff, uneven gloss or pinhole in the approved viewing zone.
Hinge and jaw Open/close sequence plus edge close-up. Flaking, exposed metal beyond agreed tolerance or movement damage.
White logo Front view, angled view and rub-review photo. Poor opacity, blurred edge or transfer after agreed handling.
Packed clip Clip-to-clip and clip-to-card contact photo. Packing contact marks the finish before shipment.

Approve the White Logo on the Real Coating

A white logo can be printed cleanly only after the coating, logo method, print area and artwork line weight are agreed. Ask for the artwork in vector format, final logo width, position from the clip edge and an approval photo with a ruler. Very fine lines may need a different route from a bold wordmark.

Logo position should be approved on the real clip profile, not on a flat rectangle detached from the product.

The creaseless hair clip finish brief should record whether the logo is pad printed, screen printed, UV printed or applied by another verified method. Do not choose a method in the article without checking the actual coating and artwork.

Make Packing Part of Finish Approval

Even a good coating can arrive marked if clips rub each other, move on the card or contact hard carton surfaces. The final sample set should show how each clip is retained, whether protective film or an individual sleeve is needed, and how the white logo faces inside the pack.

GS1 Standards 4 is useful for keeping product and packaging identification fields connected. The practical buyer decision is simpler: make the packout photo part of finish sign-off before 1,000-1,500 pieces are released.

Hair clip sets should be retained so the black finish and white logo do not rub against neighboring clips.

Send One Finish Approval Sheet

Send clip dimensions, black color and gloss reference, white-logo artwork and size, coating and logo method if known, scratch-review method, packing card or sleeve, quantity tiers, sample deadline, bulk ship-out deadline and delivery country. A creaseless hair clip finish brief is complete only when the supplier can identify what must be approved and what remains open.

FAQ

Is a Pantone black reference enough for a coated clip?

No. It helps communicate color, but the buyer must also approve gloss, texture, edge coverage and the physical sample under consistent lighting.

Does a pencil-hardness result prove the clip will never scratch?

No. It describes one coating-film test under a defined method. Purchase approval still needs handling, hinge, logo and packout risks matched to the actual product.

Should the white logo be approved before the black coating is final?

Approve the logo on the intended coating. Opacity, edge sharpness and adhesion can change with the finish and printing method.

Why inspect the packed clip?

Clip-to-clip, clip-to-card and carton contact can mark the surface after a clean unpacked sample has already passed visual review.
